In A long Walk to Freedom, Nelson Mandela refers to Pollsmoor Prison, where he was held after Robben Island and before his release, quoting Oscar Wilde’s line from the Ballad of Reading Gaol “…that little tent of blue
Which prisoners call the sky” He made a vegetable garden there - on the prison roof.
